Swedish massage is a more traditional form of massage, involving sweeping, lifting, tapping and kneading techniques, termed “effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, and vibration”. Swedish massage aims to relieve muscular tension, improve lymphatic drainage and circulation. It promotes relaxation and wellbeing.
During a Swedish massage pressures are adapted to the individual client but are typically lighter than a sports or deep tissue massage. A variety of massage oils and mediums can be used but generally they are unscented, such as grapeseed or almond oil. Swedish massage is ideal for those looking for relaxation and stress relief, to improve circulation and for general reduction muscular tension.
Clients can be treated in different lying or seated positions and Swedish massage can be adapted for people with most health conditions, and it is safe in pregnancy if performed with the client in a seated or side lying position.
Typical massage treatment options are
• Back neck and shoulder massage
• Full body massage (neck, shoulders, arms, abdomen, legs, back, feet)
• Head, facial and shoulder massage
Different combinations of the above are often provided to suit each individual.
